For our second local business highlight, we caught up with Kendra, who has taken on restoring the Hearthstone Motel back to life with her partner Jared into what will be the Reclaimed Motel.
The Reclaimed Motel seeks to bring compassionate, sustainable hospitality to attract and host both guests and locals in the Hudson Valley. With eight rooms and views of the Catskill mountains, it’s an easy, intimate place to stay with a scenic appeal.
- What brought you to the Hudson Valley?
Jared grew up in Red Hook, and we’ve been visiting over the last 15 years of our relationship. The pandemic forced us to think creatively about our work/life situation, and we immediately looked north for both a project and some added space. We bought a fixer-upper in Red Hook in 2020 and are so grateful to have been prompted to move up here.
- What is your favorite part about living / working here?
The community! We’ve made fast friends up here and have found folks to be so welcoming. When we bought the hotel, everyone from fellow business owners to people with a tie to the motel reached out and offered their encouragement and connections.
- What do you want people to know about you or your business?
We want to make this a fun experience, and my dream is to be able to host and create memorable experiences for groups that come up for a big celebration. And helping connect people to local activities is also a goal of ours. Knowing that our guests will start the day with a hike around Clermont, grab lunch at Bubby’s, and get a beer at Lasting Joy Brewery would mean we’re doing it right.
- Fun fact about yourself OR What’s your favorite beer?
I spent my formative years in North Yorkshire in England, and whenever Jared and I visit the UK, I’m quick to order a snakebite or a black & tan. I love mixing things, including my beers! I feel like this answer is going to get me in trouble with the beer pros.
We are so excited to have a local family-owned motel nearby! It’ll allow tourism to continue to boom in our area, and we can’t wait for them to open their doors! Stay up-to-date with their progress on Instagram.
