History Happy Hour - Escape from NY: 1776 Edition

Presented by Historic Red Hook.

There's no Snake Plissken in this story, but there are plenty of redcoats, bluecoats, militiamen, civilians, and non-stop Rev War Action!

This story ends with half of Manhattan burning to the ground. It begins with the Continental Army's frantic attempts to halt a methodical, relentless British advance on the city. New York has the finest harbor in the hemisphere and the British need it for their effort to re-take their rebellious, separatist American Colonies. Join Dutchess County Historian Will Tatum for a blow-by-blow retelling of the defense and loss of NYC, resulting in the great fire of 1776. Pick up the story of the Dutchess County Minutemen that begins with our Old Drovers Inn program on August 5th. If you are a fan of Kurt Russell and John Carpenter, you'll see that this real-life story has all of the makings of an action movie plot.

Oktoberfest

It's that time of year again... OKTOBERFEST is back! This year's fest will be held on the first weekend of October, 10/3 & 10/4. 🥨🍻🌭

We'll have our friends the Northeast Highlanders tossing kegs and taking names (with some interactive challenges on Sunday), Oktoberfest favs coming off the grill and out of the kitchen, fall brews freshly tapped, our annual stein holding competition, and pumpkin painting with In the Wash Art Works.

DJ Pete Pop spinning vinyl all day Sat and Voodoo Heat jammin out on Sunday.

As always, dirndls and lederhosen are strongly encouraged–but not required.

Lawn chairs and blankets are welcome, but no tents, please! Carpooling is highly recommended–our lots are first-come first-served and fill up fast!

A near total lunar eclipse 🌖 begins at 9:23pm on Thursday, August 27th and peaks just past midnight on Friday.

Gather with us under the 🌝 Sturgeon Moon 🌝 in ♓ Pisces ♓ for a very special evening of tattoos, tarot, food, curated music, and more.

We’ll observe the beginnings of the eclipse together, and we invite you to bring your tarot reflections, new tattoo, and good spirits with you to witness the peak of the eclipse from home or wherever feels meaningful to you.

We’re so excited to welcome @thorntattoony @_chloecannon and @atlastart to celebrate this night of magic, mysticism, and moonlight with us.
